Partnerships
Patients around the world -- particularly those in poor or developing countries -- have benefited from many initiatives supported and/or initiated by partnerships between the public sector and private industry. These initiatives have helped to improve access to medicines, support research into tropical diseases, and fund research into treatments for rare disorders. Examples of some of these initiatives, and their impact, are provided below:
NITD
The Novartis Institute for Tropical Diseases (NITD) was set up in 2002 as a Public-Private Partnership between Novartis and the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) with the goal of discovering novel treatments and prevention methods for major tropical diseases.
GAVI Alliance
The GAVI Alliance is a unique global network, representing both private and public interests, whose goal is to create greater access to the benefits of immunization.
